Folorunsho Alakija was born on July 15 1951 in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State Nigeria. Her dad is a wealthy man with several wives and children (she actually has 51 siblings).

As a young child, she was sent to the United Kingdom for her primary school education at Dinorben School for Girls in Harfodunos Hall, Llangernyw, Wales. She returned back to the country for her secondary school education before going back to London to futher her education ( for her Secretarial studies at Pitman’s Central College, London)


Since she was interested in fashion, she, before coming back to Nigeria, decided to pursue a degree in Fashion Designing at the American College, London and the Central School of Fashion. So, before coming into "oil money", there has been "fashion money".
